This painting is a reinterpretation of a work by artist Mary Cassatt called “The Loge” from 1880. This artist was known for portraying moments of intimacy between women. In this case, they’re going to the opera for the first time.
In her reinterpretation, Anna decided to give it a different context. The piece becomes also about the feminine subconscious and the female desire. I’m looking at her and I’m looking at you.
